예수께서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시기 얼마전 베다니에서 한여인이 옥합을 깨뜨려 예수님의 발에
붓자 예수님의 제자중 한사람이 향유를 팔아 가난한자들을 구제하지 않고 허비한 것에 대한 책망을
하자 예수님께서는 다음과 같이 말을 합니다. “가난한 자들은 항상 너희와 함께 있거니와 나는
항상 있지 아니하리라” 왜 이말이 오늘따라 제 머리속을 끊임없이 맴도는지 모르겠습니다.

2006년 3월부터 Vance Dickason이 집필한 Loudspeaker Design Cookbook 제7판을 번역하기
시작하여 2009년 2월 3일 번역을 완료한바 있습니다. 이책을 번역하면서 드는 끊임없는 의문은
원저자로부터 번역에 대한 허락을 받아야 되지 않을까하는 것이었습니다. 그런데 불행하게도
인터넷을 아무리 뒤져봐도 Vance Dickason의 e-메일 주소를 알수가 없었습니다. 그러다가 문득
이 싸이트를 통해 알게된 정강재 선생께 부탁을 드리면 알수있지 않을까해서 e-메일을 보냈더니
Vance Dickason의 e-메일이 주소를 알려 주셨습니다. 책의 첫머리를 보면 다음과 같은 글귀가
있어서 번역에 대한 허락을 받는 것이 쉬울것으로 생각했습니다.

그래서 다음과 같이 e-메일을 Vance Dickason에게 보냈습니다.

Even though I have not had a chance to have a face-to-face conversation with you, I am pleased to contact a prominent person like you in the speaker industry. The reason that I am writing this email is to ask for an approval of translating your “Loudspeaker Design Cookbook 7th edition” and “Loudspeaker Recipes Book 1”
into Korean language. When “Loudspeaker Design Cookbook 7th edition” was published in January 2006,
I bought it from Amazon.com and spent about three years to complete the translation. During the translation, the work was
not an easy task for me with my poor English. However, I could finish the translation because I had a vision that this work

이에대한 Vance Dickason측의 답신은 다음과 같았습니다.

 

Dear Mr Na
I am publisher of Mr Dickason's books, which are protected by international copyright from use by others without
our permission. I strongly suggest that you contact a Korean technical publisher who publishes material of a similar kind
to Mr Dickason's two volumes. If the company is willing to publish your translations, we will license them to publish your
translations for the Korean market in exchange for a small royalty. Mr Dickason's LDC has sold over 110,000 copies
worldwide in seven languages.     Sharing your work with others without our permission violates our copyright and is
subject to legal action. This includes posting parts or all of the text and diagrams on the world wide web.
Your publisher would also decide whether any or all of your translation could be shared on the web if you contract with
him to use your translation.
I hope you will find a suitable publisher for your work. I will be happy to supply free copies of the English
versions of these books. Also ask them to contact us and I will supply an appropriate license for use
of Mr Dickason's material. We would be very pleased if you can bring about this arrangement. Having a
publisher for your work in Korea will be a big advantage to you and DIY enthusiasts in that the company may
well have technical translators who can check your work for you. Also they will know how to promote the book

따라서 저는 더 이상 Vance Dickason의 작품을 번역하여 웹상에 게시할 명분이

없습니다. 2009년 7월 26일 23시에 웹상에 게시된 번역물을 삭제하겠습니다.

번역물을 책으로 발간하라고 Vance Dickason측에서는 권고하고 있지만 책으로 만들수

있을만큼 번역이 잘되지도 못했고, 아직까지 여러곳에 번역오류가 있다는 것을 알게

되었습니다. 저의 번역오류에 대해 충고를 해주신 김성연 선생께 감사를 드립니다.

하지만 선생께서 지적하여 주신 번역오류를 수정할 기회도 없이 번역내용들을 지워야

할 수밖에 없는 상황이 되어 버렸습니다.

급하게 저의 번역물을 MS Word로 저장하여 놓기는 하였습니다만 읽어볼수 있게 포맷을

다시 잡는데도 몇일간의 시간이 걸릴 것 같습니다. 웹상에 게시는 하지 않더라도

Loudspeaker Recipes의 번역은 완료해 놓으려 합니다. 그동안 제가 약속했던 것들을
